This
report is the product of months of intense
activity and research by local people in
Tilehurst over a period of three years. It
is presented in response to a Planning
Application submitted to Reading Borough
Council by Wimpey Homes Southern Ltd in
July 2001. The Application, number
01/00986/FUL/DG is for 61 dwellings on
allotment land owned by the Tilehurst
Poors Lands Charity.
This
case involves -
- A
site of visual and historic importance
that is highly valued by local
people
- An
open space in an area that is becoming
progressively built up
- An
important wildlife habitat that is part
of an established green link
- Pent
up demand for allotment gardens that
should be released and met by improved
management and community
involvement
- A
potential increase for leisure and
recreational use for people in the
area
- Sustainable
development issues of value to the
Local Agenda 21 and community
well-being strategies
- Viable
proposals for alternative uses of the
land.
