Response to the Wimpey Planning Application

Setting and Aspect

The panoramic views from various parts of the allotments, from the Recreation Ground, from Armour Hill and from the top of Kentwood Hill itself, extend right across the Thames Valley, to Mapledurham and the Oxfordshire horizons. We consider that great care should be taken to preserve these views for posterity as they are considered to be very important by local people.

Proposals involve the construction of houses and flats on Kentwood Hill from The Recreation Ground down to northern boundary of the site, and on Armour Hill from the northern boundary back to the existing entrance just northeast of Larissa Close.

The planning statement by Boyer Planning Ltd considers the land to be ‘underdeveloped’ and suggests that the layout has been designed to maintain long distance views over the site.

We consider that distant views, particularly from Kentwood Hill, will be compromised to the north and west. What is currently an aspect of hedgerows with distant trees in the Withies and woodland behind Wheeler Court, will be blocked by two- storey houses. Whilst it is clearly a matter of opinion, ours is shared by many people.
